NHL Goal-Scoring Prop Picks

Check out our favorite NHL goal-scoring prop picks for tonight's games. There is nothing like hitting on a goal-scoring prop pick and we are here to help you find a few easy winners tonight.

Maple Leafs' Auston Matthews To Score A Goal vs. Bruins (-120, FanDuel)

Nathan MacKinnon couldn't get us a goal yesterday, but everything that I thought was going to happen in that game did, with the Avalanche in desperation mode after a Game 1 loss. Unfortunately, he just wasn't one of the five goalscorers, but the formula was there.

Tonight, the Bruins and Maple Leafs will battle in Game 3 of this series between fanbases that both don't have a lot of faith in their teams. Both Boston and Toronto have suffered very disappointing playoff exits in recent years, and neither one wants to go through that again.

Matthews is going to need to step up to the plate here tonight at home and contribute for his team if they want to win. He led the NHL in goals this season with a whopping 69 of them in 81 games, and if he wants to erase being known as a playoff choke artist, then he is going to have to start producing. He did that in Game 2 with a goal and two assists, and I think he is easily the most likely goal-scorer on tonight's slate.

He'll be firing away at Jeremy Swayman, who has been excellent in the net for Boston, but the chances will be there since the Bruin's defense is pretty weak overall.

Maple Leafs' Auston Matthews Over 4.5 Shots On Goal vs. Bruins (-160, DraftKings)

We went 2-2 on these offensive props yesterday, and this one was the second loser, unfortunately. We took Filip Forsberg to go over 3.5 shots on goal, and he ended the night with three, so we got hooked. That always leaves a very bitter taste in your mouth, but these lines are so sharp in the playoffs with the increased action that the books see, so the chances it happens are higher.

I'm going to stick with Matthews here, as I think he will be vital if Toronto wants to compete in this game. This line is high at 4.5, but that honestly isn't that high for a guy like him who is constantly ripping pucks at the net. He had 369 shots in 81 regular season games, which if you do the math, means he is averaging 4.55 shots per game. That is right around this number with a slight lean to the over.

As this is a playoff game, I expect him to put a bit more into his play than what he averages.

NHL Points Prop Picks

Stars' Jason Robertson Over 0.5 Points vs. Golden Knights (-195, DraftKings)

We cashed this prop last night with Forsberg when he scored a goal against the Canucks, and now we are going to see if we can do the same with Robertson tonight in what is an absolutely critical game for his team at home. Dallas lost Game 1 at home, so they simply cannot afford to get down 0-2 in this series losing both home games to start it.

Robertson led the team in points with 80 of them in 82 games played, which was actually a really disappointing season for the star winger. Still, he has been their best overall played, and they are going to need him tonight in what is essentially a must-win situation at home.

This is juiced to the moon at -195, and I wouldn't be laying that kind of juice. Just throw a unit on this one for about a half unit of profit should we cash it.

NHL Assist Player Props

Find out the best NHL assist player prop picks for tonight's games. We have our eyes on the best passers in the league to identify a few quick assist wins for you.

Maple Leafs' Mitchell Marner Over 0.5 Assists vs. Bruins (-145, DraftKings)

Going back to this matchup, which I expect to be the highest-scoring one of the night, I'm going to take Marner to get us an assist. We cashed in with MacKinnon last night, as while he didn't get us a goal, he did manage an assist in that game against the Jets. While Matthews has been a goal machine in 2024, his teammate Marner has been the assist machine that has made this offense run.

Marner had 59 assists in the regular season in 69 games played, and while that isn't quite an assist per game, it is still an incredible amount. As I mentioned previously, the Bruins don't have a great defense, and I think this could be a high-scoring affair.

NHL Goalie Prop Picks

Golden Knights' Logan Thompson u28.5 Saves Made (-130, BetMGM)

Dallas doesn't have an explosive offense, and even if they do win this game tonight, I don't see them getting a million shots on goal to do so. This seems like a large number for them to get over in a playoff game, where shots are usually at a premium. Some books already have moved this line down to 27.5, so getting the extra shot could be a great value at BetMGM right now.

NHL player props add an exciting layer of strategy and engagement to watching hockey games. They allow you to bet on individual player performances, independent of the final outcome of the game. Here's a rundown of the most popular types of NHL player props:

Goal-Scoring Props:

  • Anytime Goal Scorer: Bet on whether a player will score a goal at any point during the game. This is the most common type of prop bet, and odds vary depending on the player's scoring prowess and matchup.
  • First Goal Scorer: Predict which player will light the lamp first in the game. This can be a high-risk, high-reward proposition, with longer odds for less likely scorers.
  • Over/Under Goals: Wager on whether a player will score more or less than a set number of goals in the game. This can be a good option for players with consistent goal-scoring tendencies.

Other Offensive Props:

  • Points: Bet on whether a player will record at least one point (goal or assist) in the game. This is a safer option than betting on goals alone.
  • Assists: Predict whether a player will record at least one assist in the game. Players known for their playmaking abilities are good targets for this prop.
  • Power Play Points: Wager on whether a player will score a goal or assist on the power play. This can be a good option for players who excel with the man advantage.

Performance Props:

  • Shots on Goal: Bet on whether a player will record more or less than a set number of shots on goal in the game. This can be a good indicator of a player's offensive involvement.
  • Penalty Minutes: Predict whether a player will take more or less than a set number of penalty minutes in the game. This can be a risky proposition, as penalties can be unpredictable.
  • Time on Ice: Wager on whether a player will receive more or less than a set amount of ice time in the game. This can be a good option for key players or those in close battles for playing time.

Goaltender Props:

  • Saves: Bet on whether a goalie will make more or less than a set number of saves in the game. This can be a good indicator of a goalie's workload and performance.
  • Shutouts: Predict whether a goalie will keep the opposing team scoreless throughout the game. This is a high-risk, high-reward proposition, as shutouts are relatively rare.

How do Player Prop Odds Work?

NHL player prop odds work similarly to other sports betting odds, but with a focus on individual player performance instead of the overall game outcome. Here's a breakdown:

  • Decimal Odds: Most common format in Europe and Canada. A decimal of 2.00 means your win equals your stake, 3.00 means a 2x win, and 1.50 means a 50% profit.
  • American Odds: Used in the United States. Positive odds (+200) tell you the potential profit you win per $100 stake (a +200 bet pays $200 for every $100 wagered). Negative odds (-200) tell you the amount you need to risk to win $100 (a -200 bet requires a $200 stake to win $100).
  • Fractional Odds: Used in the UK and Ireland. 1/2 odds imply a 50% chance of winning (double your stake), 2/1 odds offer a 2x profit, and 4/1 odds offer a 4x profit.

Tips for Using Odds:

  • Don't blindly chase high odds – analyze the player's situation and matchup before betting.
  • Look for value bets – where the odds offer a better chance of winning than implied by the player's performance.
  • Shop around for the best NHL player prop odds across different sportsbooks.
  • Manage your bankroll responsibly and set betting limits.
