2nd-Overall Pick: LSU QB Jayden Daniels (+170, DraftKings)

I think this one has to be pretty obvious to most people who have been paying any attention to NFL Draft news over the last month or so. Currently, North Carolina QB Drake Maye is a -155 favorite to be the No. 2-overall pick of the 2024 Draft, which wouldn't be shocking at all. He's got all the traits that you look for in a franchise QB with some excellent intangibles to back that up.

Still, there are lots of questions about how well he will play against NFL competition. He struggled at times this past college football season when taking on tougher defenses, and it often seemed like the big moments were too big for him. His play at times failed to reach a level that many would expect out of a guy who is favored to go No. 2 in the draft, and these questions can sometimes linger in the minds of NFL general managers.

It also doesn't help him that just a couple of years ago, former North Carolina QB Mitchell Trubisky was selected No. 2 overall, and he turned out to be a bust. Now, this obviously doesn't mean that Maye is doomed to the same fate, but you can never ignore the stigma around that no matter how untrue it could be.

The hottest name right now in the NFL Draft is LSU QB Jayden Daniels, who is coming off a Heisman Trophy award that he received last year for his play. To the naked eye, Daniels far outplayed Maye last season and won games against much better teams than those North Carolina was taking on. He was electric and put up huge numbers in Baton Rouge that earned him what is essentially college football's MVP for 2023.

I see him as the Anthony Richardson of this year's draft class, a guy who originally wasn't supposed to be selected super high, but rises up the boards the closer we get to the actual event. Teams can easily fall in love with a guy and his unknown upside, which can cause them to draft him earlier than maybe most people think. It also helps that he played in the SEC, which is regarded as the most competitive conference with the best players.

I would actually consider this pick to be a coin flip. I think teams are starting to sour a bit on Maye, and he is starting to become more of a consolation prize. I would not be shocked at all if it's Daniels who goes in this spot behind USC QB Caleb Williams, another Heisman Trophy winner. It would be quite the narrative if the last two Heisman winners went 1-2 to start the draft.

At +170, I'd take a stab at some team falling in love with Daniels and taking him at No. 2 overall.
