We'll start with one of the best games of the night, where the Toronto Maple Leafs travel down into Texas to take on the Dallas Stars. The Maple Leafs have finally been cooking with gas lately, winning four of their last five games and looking more like the team we thought they were going to be. The offense is starting to get things together, but they still are scoring 3.04 goals per game and taking 30.8 shots, which is average. What has helped them most this season is the goaltending, allowing just 2.50 goals per game. If they can get the offense to start doing more, this will be a very dangerous team.

Dallas is a team that I faded a lot to begin this season, and I really didn't like the way they were playing. They were still winning, but getting outshot in most of their games, and getting a little luck to help them out. They have lost three of their last five games, but have actually been the more aggressive team lately. They are scoring 3.88 goals per game and allowing just 2.80, but they have been outshooting their opponents recently for the first time. They could be starting to turn the corner a bit.

MY PICK: Both of these teams are pretty good, so I would take the team that is getting a better number here. Take the plus-money with either team.

Our free pick of the evening belongs to the New Jersey Devils against the Chicago Blackhawks at home. Chicago is a total disaster, losing four of their last five games and not being good at anything really. Their offense is pitiful, taking just 25.8 shots per game and scoring just 2.54 goals. The defense isn't any better, allowing 34.9 shots on their own net, and the goaltending has been brutal as well. Truly one of the worst teams in the NHL, they are a fade almost every time out on the ice. It's hard to watch them play.

New Jersey is one of hockey's best teams, with an electric offense and fantastic defense. The Devils score 3.72 goals per game and take a ridiculous 35.4 shots on goal. The defense allows just 26.5 shots per game and 2.28 goals each time out. This is a total mismatch, and taking a team to win as never been simpler than it gets here. Of course, now that I have said that, the Blackhawks will somehow win the game.

MY PICK: Take the Devils -1.5, and even latter that to -2.5 or more. Should be a total blowout.

Another game where the winner should be an easy pick, the Carolina Hurricanes travel to Anaheim to take on the Ducks. Carolina should be far better than their record indicates with how they have played. The Hurricanes are taking 35.2 shots per game and allowing just 26.4, one of the biggest differentials in the league. Yet, they haven't had near as much success as the Devils or Bruins, who has similar numbers. The problem comes from their inability to score goals off of those shots. They score just 2.88 goals per game. If they converted their chances, they would be a real force.

Anaheim is just a bad hockey team, especially on defense. They allow a ridiculous 37.9 shots per game, the highest in the league, and 4.19 goals per game. Everyone scores on them. The offense has gotten an average amount of shots on net, but they also can't score goals, at just 2.42 per game.

MY PICK: Hurricanes -1.5 or -2.5. It really shouldn't be a contest.
