Panthers Projected To Win This Many Games With Baker Mayfield Starting

The quarterback battle continues in Carolina after the Panthers defeated the Commanders in their first preseason game with Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold splitting the duties. And after this win, there is still no clear choice for starting quarterback.

"I have to really watch the tape to see exactly what they did, but I thought they were both in command. They made the right checks, so I was pleased," head coach Matt Rhule said after Saturday's win, per NFL.com.

And he did say Mayfield starting the game was not a permanent thing.

"No, that was for today, that was just for today," Rhule said of Mayfield starting. "So we'll go back and look at this tape. Obviously, Sam got us in the end zone. Baker led us down the field. Looked like both guys played well in terms of production. We'll go back and see where they are. That was just for today."

Rhule has not yet named a starter, but it seems like this is going to be a tough decision. Mayfield went 4-for-7 for 45 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions while Darnold went 2-for-3 for 16 yards, one touchdowns and no interceptions.

The BetQL Model is projecting the Panthers will win 5.4 games this season to go under their win total of 6.5 and is also projecting Mayfield to win the starting role. If you want to get in on the under, you can get that at -125 at FanDuel, while the over is at +105.

It will be interesting to see if the odds for this win total change once a starting quarterback is named.
