• The eighth-ranked Texas Longhorns (1-0) will face the Texas Tech Red Raiders (1-0) in Lubbock, Texas in the Big 12 opener for both teams. The Longhorns have dominated this rivalry and have defeated the Red Raiders in nine of their last eleven meetings. However, only four of those nine victories were by more than 10 points.

A One-Sided Rivalry

Texas has historically dominated their rivalry with Texas Tech. Texas is 52-17 all-time against Texas Tech, and the Longhorns have defeated the Red Raiders in nine of their last eleven meetings. The Longhorns have also defeated the Red Raiders five-straight times in Lubbock. However, the games have generally been closer than expected. Only four of Texas’ last nine victories against Texas Tech have come by more than 10 points.

Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger has played well against the Red Raiders in his career.
